WHAT IS?
WHAT IS?
SKIMO8 is a long-distance ski mountaineering race in a team race format of 2 or 3 people, in stages
1st stage
The route runs through high mountains in the Grau Roig sector of Grandvalira, where the start and finish are located, and goes into the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This environment, located in the parish of Encamp, stands out for being the wildest and most exclusive in the resort. The race crosses 3 lakes and 3 refuges within an impressive glacial cirque, offering a unique experience in the heart of the Pyrenees.
The objective of SKIMO6 is to connect the 3 refuges and 3 lakes in the wildest area of the Grau Roig sector with ski mountaineering. The landscape is typical of the alpine stage (between 2,200 and 2,900 m), dominated by high mountain pastures. The entire route is developed through a circular circuit, designed to be as spectacular as it is accessible.
The crossing takes place off-piste, in a completely natural and wild environment, with a technical difficulty of 3/5, suitable for both experienced athletes and regular practitioners looking for a demanding but affordable challenge.2nd Stage
The route enters a high mountain environment and links two emblematic refuges: the Sorteny Refuge and the Rialb Refuge, within a wild, natural and spectacular landscape.
The start takes place at the Puntal car park, in Sorteny. From here, participants enter the Vall de Sorteny Natural Park, located just before reaching the Ordino Arcalís resort. This area, declared a natural heritage site in the parish of Ordino, stands out for its impressive high mountain landscapes and its extraordinary biological richness.
The route advances along the Planell de Quer to the Vall de Rialb, then ascends to Portella de Rialb, where spectacular views open up over the Ordino Arcalís resort. The final descent takes participants to the Cabana del Pont de Castellar, the finish point of the trek.
The trek is done off-piste, in a completely natural and wild environment, with a technical difficulty of 3/5, suitable for both experienced athletes and regular practitioners looking for a demanding but affordable challenge.
