“Morabanc Andorra Ski Mountaineering Cup” for the O21-O40 categories

Scoring event for the circuit: Coupe des Pyrénées de ski-alpinisme for the O21-O40 categories

SKIMO10 is a long-distance ski mountaineering traverse held as a race for teams of 2 or 3 people.

    Stage 1

The route runs through high mountain terrain within the Grau Roig sector of Grandvalira, where both the start and finish are located, and extends into the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This area, located in the parish of Encamp, stands out as the wildest and most exclusive part of the resort. The race crosses 3 lakes and 3 mountain huts within an impressive glacial cirque, offering a unique experience in the heart of the Pyrenees.
The objective of SKIMO6 is to connect by ski mountaineering the 3 mountain huts and 3 lakes of the wildest area of the Grau Roig sector, finishing at the Refugi de l’Illa. The landscape is typical of the alpine zone (between 2,200 and 2,900 m), dominated by high-mountain pastures. The entire route follows a circular circuit, designed to be both spectacular and accessible.
The first stage takes place off-piste, in a completely natural and wild environment, with a technical difficulty of 3/5, suitable for both experienced athletes and regular practitioners looking for a challenging yet achievable goal.

    Stage 2

The route follows a high mountain itinerary that combines some of Andorra’s most spectacular landscapes. The start takes place in the Vall d’Incles, one of the country’s most privileged natural areas. Located in the parish of Canillo and of glacial origin, this valley allows participants to experience first-hand the beauty of subalpine and alpine landscapes.

The route begins with the ascent to Clot Sord, followed by a descent into the Ransol Valley, where the second ascent to the Meners Pass begins. From there, the traverse descends into the Sorteny Valley Natural Park, a protected area and natural heritage site of the parish of Ordino, renowned for its spectacular high-mountain scenery and extraordinary biological richness.

The itinerary continues across the Planell de Quer to the Rialb Valley, followed by the final ascent to the Portella de Rialb, offering a spectacular panoramic view over the Ordino Arcalís ski resort. The final descent leads participants to the Cabana del Pont de Castellar, the finish point of the traverse.
The second stage is completed off-piste, in a totally natural and wild environment, with a technical difficulty of 4/5, suitable for experienced athletes as well as regular practitioners seeking a more demanding and more technical challenge.

    SKIMO10 — FULL ROUTE DESCRIPTION (STAGES 1 & 2)

    46km - 4.000 m+

The SKIMO10 is a true high-mountain adventure, crossing some of the most spectacular landscapes in Andorra. Divided into two demanding and varied stages, it combines major ascents, legendary descents, glacial lakes, remote valleys and iconic mountain refuges. A unique challenge for teams and passionate ski-mountaineering athletes.

    STAGE 1 — 20 km · 1,500 m+

Start & Finish: Grau Roig Ski Area (Grandvalira Resorts)
    Start time: 08:30 h

Stage 1 begins in Grau Roig, progressing along the gentle 1.5 km stretch of the Granota piste before entering the glacial cirque of Pessons. Ahead of us rises the day’s first major climb:

    Collada de Montmalús — 600 m+

From the pass, a direct descent leads to the Montmalús Refuge, where the first aid station is located.

We then cross the lake and begin the ascent through the stunning Ribuls Valley, a steady climb of 500 m+, technically straightforward and surrounded by magnificent views. A smooth descent then brings us to the Illa Refuge, the largest in Andorra and the location of the second aid station.

From here, a progressive traverse leads to the Collada del Port de Vallcivera, the starting point of one of the most spectacular descents of the route:

400 m- down an easy, fast and incredibly fun couloir

This descent brings us to the Vallcivera plain, from where we tackle the final ascent of the stage (400 m+) passing Montmalús again.

The final descent, 600 m-, takes us back to Grau Roig to complete this first major stage of the adventure.

    STAGE 2 — 26 km · 2,500 m+

    Start: Vall d’Incles
    Finish: Ordino Arcalís Ski Resort
    Start time: 08:30 h

Stage 2 begins in the majestic Vall d’Incles, where we immediately confront the first ascent:

    Collada del Clot Sord — 700 m+

From the pass, a varied 600 m- descent — open terrain, forested sections and technical couloirs — leads to the first aid station in Ransol.

Next comes a classic and imposing ascent:

    Collada dels Meners — 800 m+

After reaching the top, we start the second descent of the day towards the Sorteny Refuge, where the second aid station awaits and around 15 km of the stage have already been completed.

The final section includes the climb and descent of the Planell de Quer, followed by the full traverse of the Rialb Valley, passing its refuge until reaching the Portella de Rialb, from where the Ordino Arcalís finish is already visible in the distance.

But one last legendary challenge remains:

The Fontblanca descent — 700 m-, fast, technical and iconic

From Pont del Castellar, the final push awaits:
100 m+ and the last 2 km to cross the finish line in Ordino Arcalís.
